a haiku

bored out of my mind on friday and just completely exhausted from the week, i was trying to teach an older student of mine how to write haikus. this is the student who lived in canada for two years. she wasn't catching on at all, and all she wanted to write were long dramatic poems about horses and boys she hates. in the middle of my instruction on syllables and haiku structure, she turns to me and says:

when you pick your nose
doesn't it hurt your nose ring?

and i say

i don't pick my nose

and that, ladies and gentlemen, is a haiku.
