2 months, and i still like my job. yay!

as it turns out, i'm not too crappy of a kindergarten teacher after all. of course, every day is an incredible learning experience. i teach the exact same stuff to two different classes of kids every morning, which means the second class always gets the better deal, of course. for example, in class one i learn that if you want them to pay attention, you can't give them their pencils before they read the instructions, so class two actually reads the instructions and does the worksheet correctly, etc. however, a few weeks ago, i was waiting to get a new set of books for my youngest class and had to wing it the first three days. turns out the three activities i made up on the fly were the exact, exact same three activities that the workbook had, when i finally got them for my class. that made me feel really good. so good in fact, that i learned to use the laminater and made a sign reminding the kids of the correct structure of the english sentence for asking how to spell a word ("how spell = wrong" "how do you spell = right") as well as this science gem:

if anyone asks why you can put your finger through jello or if pudding is a solid or a liquid, they're getting sent to the hallway.

Wow - kindergarteners are learning about solids, liquids, and gases? School is pretty hard core out there. Outrageous indeed. :)

Glad to hear that work is still fun. :)

Josh and Em, you could drink bleach or sulfuric acid if you really really wanted to. But why would you?

Erin, I am experiencing serious job envy.

Bobby was a scientist,
Bobby is no more,
For what he thought was H20
Was really H2SO4.

And darnitall, I've been pondering the solid/liquid state of pudding all day now! :) I think it's a really, really thick liquid, because if you're patient, you can pour it.

I am glad you still like your work. And (based on comments other people left) maybe you should make clear to the children that the fact that they can drink a liquid or they can't pass through solid matter does not necessarily mean they should try it...

i hear ya thanos. the solid i always use to demonstrate is their head and they keep trying to put their fingers through their heads. hmm . . .

and yeah ryan, my kindergarteners are really freaking smart. they can read almost anything and they can write long stories in english and sing english songs and conjugate verbs and do multiplication, some of them. it's crazy.

the ones that are really good are mostly 6 years old, and one 5 year old who is SHOCKINGLY smart. my 4 and 5 year old class isn't quite so strong at writing, but they can read. but don't worry, i get plenty of snot.
